The Daily Find: ‘Mighty Wallet’ by Dynomighty Design

Dynomighty Design’s Mighty Wallets caught my eye in a Melbourne design shop last month. The wallets are made from a single folded sheet of a strong micro fiber material (Tyvek®), and they’re striking because they see everyday and classic designs take on new form. Some of the most popular designs are an airmail envelope, a page from a three-ring binder and a dollar bill. But the one that got me was the London Underground map; I loved the familiarity of the map – a design icon – and the secondary function of wallet as map.

Functionality is the triumph of this design. The wallet is incredibly thin and strong, has no stitching so it instantly expands and collapses in size to accommodate whatever is inside.  that is tear and water resistant. This alone makes the wallet eco-friendly because the material long lasting. But then to top it off, the material is fully recyclable.

The sustainability specs are as follows:

  • Made from highly recyclable HDPE
  • Incredibly light weight and minimized packaging result in low-energy production and small carbon footprint from shipping
  • Shipped with carbon offsets
  • Printed with SGS certified environmentally friendly inks
  • 1/8 of one inch thick (but expands to hold just about anything you could want to put in it
  • Impossible to tear and completely water resistant

Like all great green products, the wallet is a lovely marriage of form and function. The design is beautifully creative to begin with, with seemingly endless cool designs you can choose from make this not just an eco-friendly wallet, but a really stylish accessory which helps you start a conversation about your choice. If you’re creative yourself, the wallet comes in a DIY version that means it can feature any artwork, design or script that is on a piece of paper.

The wallet is only $15 USD.

In Australia, Mighty Wallets are available from Vincent2, Melbourne. If you know of anywhere else retailing them please let us know in the comments.

From Dynomighty Design:

The ingenious origami construction was and is the original folded Tyvek® wallet designed by Terrence Kelleman. The stitch less design reinforces the materials own strength and allows these very slim wallets to instantly expand and adapt to your own personal storage needs. The Mighty Wallet® will expand right before your eyes (watch the videos).

Because of the slim, lightweight and water resistant features, you can take these cool wallets anywhere. They make great “night out” wallets for a slender silhouette and the writable surface conveniently acts as a quick note pad on the go.

In time, the Mighty Wallet® will gradually soften and patina but, even after years of wear, it will still offer surprise and solicit intrigue. ”
